Lesson 21: The Ten Commandments
Hi AY Family,
God does not want us to take His name in vain.
Taking His name in vain does not only happen when people say O.M.G or when they say that they swear unto God, but it also happens when people say that they are Christians following Christ when in reality, they are ungodly people following Satan.
When we take the Lord’s name in vain, we are breaking the third commandment in Exodus 20.
Exodus 20:7 says: “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”
God does not want to swear by any means because swearing does not represent Him.
James 5:12 says: “But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.”
Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples, swore that he did not know Him.
Matthew 26:73-74 says: “And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.”
People ask the question, "Have I done the unforgivable sin?" and my answer to that question is "No" unless you blasphemed against the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 12:31-32 says: “Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.”
Sincerely,
Samuel Reid
